Not cool. Srsly not cool.

All right, I’m fired up now.

Earlier this week  I cruised on over to Ellia’s blog (which I’ve been  lurking reading only since FOREVER ago), only to find out that some  dirty, rude, rotten, stinky-toed, baby-seal-clubbing inconsiderate person has been  borrowing stealing her art.

That is not cool.  I mean it.  Not cool at ALL.

Check it out:

vs

Pink Petticoat imposter

See the similarities?  Line style, expressions, posture…even the characters’ clothing.

When Ellia instructed the imposter to immediately remove all the copycatted art from her site, Pink Petticoat refused and even tried to draw lawyers into the discussion.

As of today, though, she has caved (and rightly so!) and is refunding all money made from the sale of the stolen art.  Obviously I’m quite glad to see this resolution, though I continue to be displeased with Pink Petticoat’s “victim” attitude.  But hey, you can’t make everybody like you .

I also feel sorry for Ellia, who has now lost trust and faith in her internet community.  I would, too, though.  I’m just glad she hasn’t sworn off blogging or creating art forever

I’ll end this by encouraging you not to patronize Pink Petticoat, and I offer a hearty, ringing endorsement of Greenbean Baby Art.  Maybe her recent situation can teach us all a lesson – that even in our cozy little crafter-filled corner of the Internet, there are still bad guys out there, and it’s never totally safe.

It’s just a shame that it’s necessary to slap an ugly, giant (c) over every image to protect yourself.

Boooooooooooooooots

I know, I know.  “Oh look she’s writing another post about boots.  What’ll it be next?  Cats? Knitting? Will it never end?”

No, it won’t.

So sit down and shut up and look at what I found.

Am wearing my Ariat clog-thingies today and these are *one of* my favorite pairs of work shoes.  Last night I wore my trusty pink cowboy boots.  The day before that I wore my LLBean boots.  And then I started thinking of what a bastard hybrid of these 3 shoes would be:

1)Super comfy (erm, all of the above – I don’t wear uncomfortable shoes anymore, and all my boots are *amazing*)
2)Stylish, as far as cowboy boots are concerned (like the pink ones)
3)Neutral, work-appropriate colors (like the Ariat clogs or the LLBean dress boots)

So here it goes:

Ariat Legend Wing Tip in “Russet Rebel” ($189.90)

I really like the styling on these – the classic Legend shape and stitching, with the wingtip and heel details that kinda remind me of handknitted socks. And the price is fair.

Ariat Legend in “Brown Oiled Rowdy” ($169.90)

I liked these when I made my other post about a year ago, and I STILL like them.  The style is SO “me”, but they’re really not all that dressy, what with the distressing and all.  But I’m not going to be at this job forever (hopefully I’ll be outta here sooner rather than later), and I just love them sooooo much!

Ariat Manzanita in “Cocoa” ($105)
ariat-manzanita
These are CUTE – and cheap!  But are they basic enough?  I kinda like the “business at the bottom, party at the top” vibe – they’re like the awesome mullet of the cowboy boot world – but will I just end up in the market for plain(er) brown boots again in a couple years?
And also – OMG they only have them left in a 6 and a 6.5!  *I’m* a 6.5!

….in conclusion, I really wish I were wealthy Or at least, I really wish that I had the money for a pair of cute happy cowboy boots that I could wear to work.  ::le sigh::

Like Christmas!

Upon visiting my parents in Kansas City last weekend, I learned that my mom has picked up a new hobby: jewelry-making. This is advantageous to me for four reasons:

1)I like jewelry

2)I like free jewelry

3)My mom doesn’t feel that her stuff is “good enough” to sell

4)So she gives it to me!

I honestly don’t know the first thing about jewelry making or how to do it, or even the names for some of these stones or bead styles. So forgive me for not saying “this is a blah-blah-blah made by lah-de-dah-ing, of pure whoop-de-do wire.” Can’t do it. Sorry. Y’all would call me out for a fraud if I tried.

dsc_0318(I love these. The tiny little leaves hanging in front were salvaged from some gawd-awful ugly piece of business that Mom salvaged from a junk store. Take ‘em out of the ugly context, and they’re adorable! Pure whoop-de-do.)

dsc_0320(I love these. They’re so simple and essential! I’ve worn them like 3 times, and I’ve only had them for a week.)

dsc_0322(I love these. Aren’t they neat??? They’re so exotic looking! I also like how even though they’re long and dangly, they still look good when I’ve got my hair up. That’s rare for me)

dsc_0323(I love these! The big pink beads are so neat. It’s hard to tell in the photo, but the outside is clear pink and the inside is a milky, pure pale shade. They’re geometric and substantial but not clunky.)

dsc_0326(I love these. The theme I’m assigning is “industrial Valentine’s Day” because of the red and white theme and the vaguely heart-shaped stones, but the pewter color and little bit of dangly chain. Yup. These were made with the lah-de-dah technique.)

dsc_0325(I love these! I don’t know the name of the blue beads at the bottom, but they’re actually…engraved?…painted?…covered in silver. They remind me of my wedding, what with the cobalt and silver.)

dsc_0328

(I love these! I had a really hard time getting a good picture of them, but they’re a drop-shaped wire and the blue topaz (I do know gemstones ) hanging down is cut into a 360* teardrop shape. It has a name. Mom told me. But I do not remember. ::hangs head in shame::. They look awesome on, but you’re not gonna see that because I look rather a mess right now)

dsc_0324 (I love these. They were originally part of the big pink square ones above, but Mom divided them into two pairs so neither were so heavy. They’re really swingy and move-y, and the pearls and clear glass beads offer great dimension. I think (blah-blah-blah?).)

dsc_0331(I love these! I got to help design them. They’re to go with my Maude Louise sweater (which still needs buttonbands and a collar…). I chose the beads and drew the design on a Post-it note, and Mom made it happen. How does she DO that?! I can’t wait to wear these with my new sweater, and I’m saving them ’till I get it done (Hellooooo motivation!))

So everybody, shouldn’t we petition my mom to open an Etsy shop? Wouldn’t you buy this stuff? I’ve gotten tons of compliments every day this past week (especially on the orange ones), and I’d love to be able to say “Here’s my mom’s website – you can buy them there.” But I can’t, because she doesn’t have one.

Mom, you listening?

For Posterity

Last night I dreamed that it was some undetermined point in the (far) future, and I had a son, and he was about 18 months old, and he had pink skin and wispy blonde sorta-curly hair and Jeff’s brown eyes and the sweetest little giggle in the world.

It was so vivid, the best dream I’ve had in a long time, and even though I don’t really believe in dreams foretelling the future or anything, I’m recording it here…just in case.

…of course, the rest of my dream involved $300 scotch whiskey, my office, violin bows, and my mom using MS Publisher at a desk in the corner, but that part isn’t as important
